Camption BoatsIt is with great enthusiasm that Campion Marine announces that, for a third time, it has won the Green Business Award through the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes environmentally innovative and sustainable practices.

“Winning the Green Award for a third time is really an honour. Our whole team has been working very hard to become greener and we all appreciate being recognized for this.” states Brock Elliott, President of Campion Marine.

“This is a continuous journey that we have undertaken and we look forward to all the new ideas that will help us become greener along the way,” says Elliott.

Campion manufactures all of its boats using a renewably sourced bio-derived resin and is the first boat maker to do so. Envirez® resin uses a substantial amount of soybean oil and corn derived ethanol in its formulation enabling Campion to eliminate over 100,000 pounds of C02 from entering the atmosphere. Campion also uses Ecomate® polyurethane flotation foam products that further reduce harmful emissions and, unlike previously used foams, are free of Volatile Organic Compounds.

Last year, Campion also took on Acrastrip® CRR, an acetone replacement that is recognized by the Design for the Environment division of the US EPA. Campion is now using Maxguard LE (low emissions) gel coat and will shortly be using a revised version of ATC Spraycore, which will now be using Envirez resin for its base. Campion, working with ReGen Nautic of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, launched the new Chase 550 with the world’s first 180hp electric outboard. These initiatives continue to build on the Lean Manufacturing practices already implemented 7 years ago and allow Campion to further reduce its waste and ecological footprint.

Campion Marine has been building high-performance sport boats and cruisers for 40 years. The family owned company, at its facility in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, has a strong, diversified product line up, consisting of Chase high performance boats, Explorer sport utility boats, Allante runabouts and cruisers, Svfara wake and surf tow boats, Infinyte alternate energy boats and Reinell runabouts and fish & ski models. Campion Marine manufactures more than 50 models of boats ranging from 16 to 30 feet in length and market and sell their boats in more than 30 countries.

MARINA 101 – DAILY MARINA ASSESSMENT

Carl Wolf Merritt Alves 400Carl F. Wolf, CMM CMI with Merritt Alves, IMI Training Coordinator at IBEX 2017

Do you perform a Daily Marina Assessment at your marina? I gained a greater appreciation for the importance of a Daily Marina Assessment when I attended the Marina 101 seminar put on by IMI, the International Marine Institute at IBEX in Tampa on September 18. The session was delivered by Carl F. Wolf and he broke the day into nine different sections. The first was titled, "The Daily Challenges of Managing a Marina on a Day-to-day Basis" while the second section was “Daily Marina Assessment”. READ MORE

THE INDUSTRY MOURNS THE LOSS OF GEORGE CUTHBERTSON, FOUNDER OF C&C YACHTS

george cuthbertson 400We were saddened to learn that George Cuthbertson, founder of Cuthbertson & Cassian (C&C) Yachts, passed away on October 3, 2017 at his home in Toronto.

Truly one of the greats in Canadian boat design and boat building, George created an amazing and perhaps unequalled legacy of both outstanding boats and outstanding marine professionals; the list of people who worked with him and their accomplishments in the ensuing years, would make any Canadian proud.

A remarkable and large reunion of the boat building family that C&C Yachts created took place in April 2012 and we were there...READ MORE
