Brighton Road BridgeIn the coming weeks, Parks Canada will be conducting spring maintenance at some of our swing bridges and sites along the Trent-Severn Waterway, in preparation for the 2016 navigation season. This includes preventative maintenance tasks like washing and greasing swing bridges and conducting visual inspections to ensure their safe operability.

Temporary Bridge Closures

Parks Canada would like to advise residents and visitors of the following temporary

bridge closures for regular spring maintenance, weather permitting:

May 3 Warsaw Road Swing Bridge (Peterborough) 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM

May 4 Maria Street Swing Bridge (Peterborough) 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM

May 5 McFarlane Street Bridge (Peterborough) 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Traffic Delays

Seasonal maintenance on certain bridges that cross the Trent-Severn Waterway will not

result in closures, but vehicles may experience short delays of about 10 minutes:

April 18 to mid-May Brighton Road Swing Bridge

Carrying Place Swing Bridge

Glen Ross Swing Bridge

Ranney Falls Swing Bridge (Campbellford)

Hastings Swing Bridge

Bobcaygeon Swing Bridge

Bolsover Swing Bridge

Boundary Road Swing Bridge

Lakeshore Road Swing Bridge

Couchiching Bridge

Hamlet Swing Bridge (on Canning Road near Washago)

Port Severn Swing Bridge

Motorists are asked to plan their routes accordingly in order to avoid delays. To accommodate school bus traffic, efforts will be made to keep bridge delays between 9:00 am and 2:30 pm. Parks Canada wishes to thank the public for their patience during the maintenance period.

Davis Carbon Fiber Wind Vanes

Whether learning to sail in an Optimist, perfecting technique in a Laser or taking line honors in the latest sportboat, the ability to visualize apparent wind angle and read the shifts is critical to sailing well. Traditional wind indicators tend to be fragile and easily bent or broken. Davis Instruments introduces Blacksmith Wind Vanes, made from super lightweight 3D carbon fiber and duraluminum to withstand the rigors of hard racing. For Opti sailors, an equally durable, carbon-free class legal version is offered. READ MORE

Andy Adams Award 400Last night Boating Ontario presented BIC’s Andy Adams with the W.J. Robertson Award. The award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution and has expressed an appreciation for the Boating Ontario Association.

This year’s Boating Ontario is special for several reasons. It is the organization’s 50th anniversary and Andy Adams, who is managing editor of Canadian Yachting as well as online editor of Boating Industry Canada, is the first member of the media to receive the honour.
