MapHorseshoe Lake Road (County Road 20) in Haliburton County near Minden will be closed temporarily near the Horseshoe Lake Dam, below Bethel Road, beginning December 12.

This closure will enable work to replace Horseshoe Lake Dam, part of the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site. Though work to replace the dam will be ongoing until late summer 2017, this road closure will last only a portion of that time, until approximately the end of February 2017.

For users of the river, access to the area immediately above and below the dam may be restricted during the construction period, but access to the rest of the river will not. Throughout construction, water management practises will remain in place and construction should have no impact on water levels.

Horseshoe Lake Dam, at the outlet of Horseshoe Lake, near Minden, Ontario was built in 1909. In June 2015, a project to rehabilitate the dam was announced that would include improvements to the physical condition and stability of the dam, its hydraulic capacity, public and operator safety, site access, and mechanical equipment. The new dam will also restore public access across the dam by providing a safe pedestrian walkway separated from the operating mechanisms.

Significant infrastructure investments are being made in our national historic sites, national parks and national marine conservation areas.
