SOUTHERN ALBERTA’S BIGGEST BOAT & OUTDOOR SHOW COMING TO THE BMO CENTRE

The 2017 Calgary Boat and Sportsmen’s Show returns to the BMO Centre, Stampede Park February 9-12th, 2017.

“The Calgary Boat and Sportsmen’s Show is a much anticipated event among Southern Alberta outdoor enthusiasts,” says Pamela Ziwani, Show Manager – Alberta, “the Show features an impressive line-up of marine products and accessories, in addition to fishing, hunting and outdoor gear, adventure travel destinations, educational interactive exhibits, and lots of family entertainment.”

For many Albertans spending time out on the water is what spring and summer are all about.   If you are one of those people be sure to check out the huge selection of watercraft at some of the best prices of the season.  Order at the Show to ensure an early delivery and you don’t miss out on any of the fun.

Fishing is a great activity for the whole family.  Stock up on all the gear you will need so you are prepared once the waterways open up.  The Fishin’ Hole’s Super Spring Sale has product demos and manufacturer’s reps on hand to guide you in the buying process.

Excited squeals are often heard coming from the vicinity of the Kids Trout Fishing Pond as youngsters catch and release live trout, many for the very first time. This catch and release program is a great way to introduce kids to fishing. All proceeds benefit the Sarcee and Calgary Fish and Game Associations.

New this year is the Lumberjack Mountain Show, presented by Husqvarna.  This family friendly Show features head to head competition in various disciplines including axe throwing, cross cut sawing, underhand chop and Jack n’ Jill Cross-Cut just to name a few.  The participants are all current or former Canadian Champions resulting in a fierce competition.

Chainsaw carver Kevin Lewis will be carving an amazing work of art live at the Show.  He received his first chainsaw at the age of 11, a logger by trade he has been a chainsaw carver for 20 years.  He specializes in fantasy and wildlife art, which he incorporates into functional pieces of furniture. It is mesmerizing to watch as an ordinary piece of wood gets transformed into an amazing work of art.

The Alberta Birds of Prey Centre educational presentations are a staple at the Show.  The staff of the Centre will share of the unique and interesting stories.  The Centre is one of a kind; recuing, rehabilitating rare and endangered injured birds of prey back out into the wild, captive breeding and release as well as studying and monitoring wild birds of prey populations and encouraging positive habitat stewardship.  The information presented is always enlightening and interactive. At the completion of the presentation there is an opportunity to get up close with some of the Centre’s amazing residents, some of which may even pose for photograph. 

New to the Show this year is Hank Patterson, self-proclaimed fly-fishing expert, “world’s greatest guide” and comedian.  He is our special guest on Friday, February 10th.  Be prepared to forget everything you ever thought you knew about fly fishing because Hank is about to change it all. He will perform two shows followed by meet and greet autograph session.  

The Outdoor Stage will play host to a select group of well-known Canadian outdoorsmen. Our feature presenters include Wes David, host of Fishing the Wild West, and TJ Schwanky, co-host off Outdoor Quest TV.   They will take a fun, light-hearted approach and share some personal adventures, stories and even a few helpful hints.

If you are looking for a quick weekend get away or planning the adventure trip of a lifetime, the travel and tourism area provides lots of options with an excellent variety of destinations to choose from. Reps from hunting and fishing lodges, vacation rentals, safaris, adventure tourism destinations will be on hand to answer all your questions and help you choose the trip that meets all your needs.  

The Alberta Hunter Education Instructors’ Association’s (AHEIA) goal is to preservation, education and increase the level of public commitment to wildlife and fisheries conservation.  They play a big part in managing our resources for the pleasure of future generations.  They will have both interactive and educational displays.  The hunting and fishing simulators are always a big hit, as is the hands on archery range.  Providing not only exposure but also information and education is the first step in developing an appreciation for the resources that our province has to offer.
