(CHESAPEAKE, Va.) – May 1, 2017 – Boating Industry, the monthly U.S. boating business magazine, has selected Volvo Penta’s Easy Drain as one of the top products of the year.

The 2017 list of the 50 top boating products appeared in the May issue of the magazine. The products were chosen by the editors from hundreds of nominations, based on their impact on the industry, innovation and how they advanced the state of the art.

Volvo Penta’s Easy Drain allows boaters to drain raw water from their vessels in mere minutes without having to disconnect water hoses or remove the boat from the water. It includes an anti-siphon vent that is actuated automatically with the push of a single knob. A locking pin ensures no accidental opening of the system when draining. Because all new-generation Volvo Penta gasoline engines are designed with a closed-loop fresh-water cooling system, the engine block is constantly protected by antifreeze, making it easier to drain the raw water from the system.

“Anyone who boats in colder climates knows how little time we have to get on the water, so a product that helps extend the boating season is a welcome innovation,” said Jonathan Sweet, editor in chief of Boating Industry. “Winterizing and maintenance are two of the biggest pain points for boaters and the Easy Drain helps make all of that easier.”

The Easy Drain system also won a prestigious NMMA Innovation Award at the IBEX show in October 2016.

“The Volvo Penta Easy Drain is part of our ongoing Easy Boating initiative, which aims to enhance enjoyment of the boating lifestyle by removing perceived barriers and simplifying operation and maintenance of the boat,” said Ron Huibers, president of Volvo Penta of the Americas. “It is the latest in a long list of Volvo Penta award-winning ‘firsts’ in the industry, as we continue to develop solutions with the specific needs of boaters in mind.”
