EvinrudeBRP, a world leader in powersports, announced today that Evinrude has received recognition as a Green Master in the Wisconsin Green Masters Program. Presented by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council, the Green Masters Program assesses and acknowledges local businesses on their sustainability performance in a variety of categories. The Program is grounded in an in-depth survey where points are awarded and companies are scored for a variety of actions grouped to include: Energy, Climate, Workforce, Governance, and Community and Educational Outreach. Evinrude’s dedication to sustainability is demonstrated and proven through its advancement in this program.

“Evinrude is committed to preserving the environment for future generations to enjoy,” said Tracy Crocker, senior vice president and general manager of Evinrude. “That is why we use innovative technologies to ensure our products are more fuel efficient and better for the environment than any other outboard. We know creating sustainable products is not the only action we can take to protect the environment; we are also committed to sustainable practices throughout our workplace.”

Founded in 1909 in Wisconsin, Evinrude’s success is a pioneering spirit that has helped the brand remain an industry leader in outboard technology for over 100 years. The brand has focused solely on developing efficient outboards that will help preserve a clean environment. Evinrude’s direct injection engine is cleaner and more efficient than any other outboard, with every drop of oil in the E-TEC G2 fuel mix going into combustion – not the air or water.

The Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council is a network of local businesses that are leaders in integrating principles of sustainability into business operations. The business case for sustainability – defined in terms of people, planet and profit – has never been stronger. Wisconsin businesses have taken a leadership role in not only ensuring the protection and preservation of our natural resources but in creating a vibrant and growing economy. The Council provides best-in-class resources and brings businesses together to share knowledge, experiences and tools.

“Sustainability is essential for companies seeking to compete in today’s economy,” says Kevin Banas, director of the Green Masters Program. “Evinrude serves as a great example of how a large company can incorporate a sustainability strategy to better itself, the community and the environment. Their score in the program demonstrates their commitment to sustainability, and their efforts are paying off.”

Evinrude’s major sustainability initiatives include installing a closed-loop water and energy recovery system for testing and developing clean-technology outboard engines and pioneering field emissions testing equipment to help bring second-generation alternative biofuels, such as biobutanol, to boating consumers. The brands’ advanced end-of-line engine test reduces process emissions and fuel consumption by over 50 percent. The company has also installed a heat recovery unit on existing process emissions control devices and brought new technology outboard engines to market with fuel efficiency improvements of greater than 15 percent compared to other engine technologies.

“Every member of the Evinrude team is committed to sustainable manufacturing practices,” said Jeff Wasil, Evinrude’s engineering manager, Emissions Testing, Certification and Regulatory Development. “Evinrude constantly pioneers new solutions to reduce our impact on the environment. These actions help us ensure long-term energy efficiency, a core component in Evinrude’s corporate social responsibility goals.”

BRP's Evinrude engine line up, from 3.5 to 300 HP, offers customers superior value across a full range of applications. The all-new Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines are now available from 150 to 300 HP. Engines are available at authorized Evinrude dealerships worldwide.

HELP SAVE THE ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSIONER OF ONTARIO (ECO)

FOCA logoNews Week has just learned that on November 15, 2018, the Ontario Government introduced sudden plans to eliminate the office of the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario (ECO). A vote on this was rushed through on December 6. The ECO is our environmental watchdog, supporting public participation through the Environmental Registry, as well as government accountability for decisions that affect our environment, now and into the future.

FOCA (the Federation of Ontario Cottagers Association) opposes the elimination of the office of the ECO, and has written to the Premier and party leaders but we feel the marine industry should add our voice.
