ABYCThe annual update to the Standards And Technical Information Reports For Small Craft by which boats are built and repaired will be released August 1, by the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) in Supplement 53. For Supplement 53, ABYC Standard S-31 Environmental Considerations for Electric/Electronic Components Installed Onboard Boats was added.  The following ABYC Standards were revised:
•         A-1 Marine Liquefied Petroleum LPG Systems
•         A-3 Galley Stoves

Available for iPhone, iPod and Android phones, the free Sandy Boater's Guide app is offered by Dozier's Waterway Guide, with support from Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS), TowBoatUS, the Association of Marina Industries, Monmouth University Urban Coast Institute and the Atlantic City New Jersey Boat Show.

IBEXOrganizers of the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX) will host two evening events at this year’s show: the IBEX Opening Night Party at Fourth Street Live! and the Bourbon and Brew Happy Hour. These two parties will complement the conference’s full schedule of classes, workshops, demonstrations and more, allowing the marine industry to connect to one another at fun, after-hours events.

Bob MillerDelta "T" Systems has announced the appointment of HVAC veteran Bob Miller to its staff. In his role as HVAC specialist of the new Delta "T" Complete vessel ventilation program, Miller's goal is to set a new benchmark of reliability in marine heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and to spearhead the HVAC portion of the new Delta "T" Complete program. This comprehensive new program was formed to offer boatbuilders a one-stop shop for all of their vessels' ventilation requirements, including engine room ventilation, HVAC, galley and head ventilation and unmanned space ventilation.

Crates MarineAt the recent annual Cruisers Yachts Dealer Meeting which was held in Sturgeon Bay WI from July 14 to 17, in the Cruisers Sport Series, Summum Sport from Ste Marthe-sur-le-Lac,QC. was awarded #1 in world wide sales.  They were represented by Denis Poliseno who was not able to stay for the banquet. Then, #3 in world wide sales for Cruisers Sport Series was awarded to Crates Marine from Keswick, ON.

ABBRA 2014 conferenceThe American Boat Builders & Repairers Association (ABBRA) has announced the theme and dates for its upcoming 2014 Annual Boatyard Business Conference entitled “Reflect, Rethink, Refocus: Business Leadership for Tomorrow’s Boat Building and Repair Industry.”  The conference will be held January 22-24, 2014 at the B Ocean Hotel on Fort Lauderdale Beach and is a two-day event focused strictly on the business issues impacting boatyard owners, operators, managers, boat builders, and boat repair businesses.

IBEXThe International Boatbuilders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX) announced a panel of seven marine journalists to judge the 2013 IBEX Innovation Awards. “The Innovation Awards honor excellence in product development in thirteen areas of the marine industry, including boatbuilding methods and materials, inboard and outboard engines, hardware, interior parts and furnishings, and safety equipment,” said Anne Dunbar, IBEX Show Director. “This is an opportunity for truly leading-edge technology to get recognition and exposure.”

Human-Powered HelicopterThe American Helicopter Society has officially declared AeroVelo winner of the Igor I. Sikorsky Human Powered Helicopter Competition. After a thorough and rigorous independent analysis of the flight data of June 13th 2013 12:43 EDT, the AHS Human-Powered Helicopter Committee concluded that indeed Atlas’ epic flight 1) exceeded 60 seconds duration, 2) exceeded 3m in height, and 3) remained within a 10m x 10m box.

The team's bicycle-powered craft is the largest such helicopter to have flown.

Class AfloatClass Afloat established the Class Afloat ‘Young Sailor Scholarship’ to assist two students, endorsed by their sailing school, sail training program or yacht club, to participate in an extraordinary educational experience—attending high school while sailing worldwide aboard a majestic square-rigged tall ship. We are pleased to announce this year’s recipients, Ellyn Byrns and Xaver Löhr. Ellyn Byrns of Saskatoon, SK has been a member of her provincial sailing team since 2005 and was hired as a sailing instructor for the Provincial Sailing Program in 2012.

NAUTISME QUEBEC CANCELS THE 2021 MONTREAL BOAT SHOW

 

Nautisme QuebecSince mid-march, the Alliance de l’industrie nautique du Québec - Nautisme Québec has been devoting time and energy in order to present its main annual event, the Montreal Boat Show. However, with the organizational deadlines that such an event requires, the progress of COVID-19 in the last few weeks and the uncertainty of its outcome in the next winter period, Nautisme Québec finds that it is wiser to cancel the Montreal Boat Show, which was scheduled from February 4 to the 7, 2021.
