SAFER BOATING ON LAKE SIMCOE WITH YRP MARINE UNIT RELOCATION

York Regional Police

 July 3, 2018

York Regional Police held a public meeting at the Ramada Jackson’s Point Resort on June 25, 2018 discussing the construction of their new marine facility. The police Marine Unit will be moving from Krate’s Marina where they have been located for several years, to Jackson’s Point when the new facilities are completed. The new Jackson’s Point location will reduce the travel time for police and rescue operations when responding to calls from across Lake Simcoe to the Trent Severn Waterway and as far as Barrie and the Narrows. The three larger police vessels will be stored in the water in a new boathouse while other smaller boats, ATV’s and snowmobiles on trailers will be stored outdoors at the same location. This includes their air boat used for winter rescues when ice conditions are uncertain.

The Marine Unit serves a large area on a 12-month basis and is busy year-round. The total cost of the building’s construction was stated to be $4.6 million in addition to the land acquisition cost and is estimated to be complete and operational by the spring of 2019.
