BOATING INDUSTRY CANADA EXCLUSIVE – YAMAHA UNVEILS NEW T25 OUTBOARD IN VANCOUVER

Yamaha Outboard

Oct 9th, 2018

We have an exciting Boating Industry Canada exclusive by Craig Ritchie.

Craig writes, “Representatives from a significant number of boat builders, law enforcement agencies and boat dealers attended Yamaha’s gala outboard engine event in North Vancouver last week. The company introduced to the Canadian market its new 425 horsepower V8 XTO Offshore outboard, the Helm Master digital control system and an all-new four-stroke outboard engine.

Designed with large, heavy boats in mind, Yamaha’s new 425 horsepower V8 XTO Offshore outboard drew a considerable level of interest, particularly among builders of large welded aluminum offshore fishing boats. Yamaha had two boats in the water rigged with the new engine, including an all-new Kingfisher 3125GFX that also featured the Yamaha’s new Helm Master digital control system. Yamaha also offered sea trials on a Duckworth 26 Offshore, rigged with a single 425 HP engine and Yamaha’s all-new T-25C kicker engine. The event marked the global unveiling of the new T-25C kicker, which is being positioned with the 425 V8 XTO Offshore outboard and the Helm Master system as a complete, single-source solution for the large offshore fishing rigs so popular in our Pacific northwest.

Yamaha’s T-25C is an all-new 25 horsepower four-stroke outboard designed from the outset to be used as a kicker engine. The clean sheet design fills a void in the market by providing the additional power and capabilities required by offshore fishermen operating increasingly larger and heavier boats. “Every fisherman on the west coast has a kicker engine,” said Yamaha Canada Product Manager, J.F. Rioux. “For many years the 9.9 has been the go-to motor for that application, but with the larger and heavier boats that are now dominating the market, there is a need for more power, and the T-25C delivers.”

The new two-cylinder engine was designed with equal emphasis placed on high torque and light weight. The T-25C is 28 percent lighter than Yamaha’s existing T-25A model, weighing in at a svelte 145 pounds compared to 201 pounds for the older motor. It will be offered in 20-inch and 25-inch shaft lengths to fit a variety of offshore fishing boat models.

Rioux notes that while the new T-25C engine was designed specifically for Canada’s Pacific coast, it and the 425 HP XTO and the Helm Master system are also expected to prove popular with anglers on other large water bodies, such as the Great Lakes.”
