Kohler Co. is pleased to announce the extension of the KOHLER marine generator portfolio with the new EU Stage V emission-compliant 50Hz marine ratings starting July 2020.

The KOHLER Stage V marine generators, powered by John Deere engines, include sound-shielded models 45EFOZDJ, 55EFOZDJ and 100EFOZDJ; or open models 45EFOZCJ, 55EFOZCJ, 100EFOZCJ. The models are available in heat exchanger, keel cooling or fan-radiator cooling configurations with or without Marine certification, Lloyds, DNV-GL, BV, ABS or CCS.

With the introduction of the new Stage V models, Kohler now offers those vessels that must comply with EU Stage V emission requirements, the possibility to also benefit from Kohler’s unique DEC3500 controller functionality, available on the entire KOHLER marine generator range from 12kW – 450kW at 50Hz.

The marine-certified DEC3500 paralleling controller with integrated voltage regulator does not only control, monitor and protect the generator against for instant overload, but also offers the unique possibility to automatically (PGEN) parallel and manage the load of two (2) or more KOHLER marine generators of different kW sizes (also for single phase systems) by simply connecting a communication wire between the respective gensets.

Bigger kW output generators may be replaced with smaller KOHLER kW generator sizes in PGEN parallel connection to save fuel, minimize emissions, and possibly even avoid the need for exhaust after-treatment systems.

The DEC3500 controller is equipped with software integrated synchronization, load sharing and power management functions which no longer requires external, vessel integrated switchgear, thus saving on board space and extra investments. For refit projects, the DEC3500 controller does facilitate communication with existing onboard switchgear to support paralleling features arranged by third party devices.
