Every Marina Operator Should View the ABYC Webinar on Electric Shock Drowning

There is a very interesting webinar on Electric Shock Drowning on the ABYC website ABYCINC.ORG. It will be available to non-ABYC members until August 19 for part 1 and until August 31 for part 2.

Every marina supplying shore power is at risk because it’s a boat wiring problem that can occur unexpectedly, even on newer boats.

The ABYC video describes several tragic electrocution/drownings that have occurred around boats in freshwater marinas, causes for these tragedies, and ways to reduce the dangers.

Boating Industry Canada first reported this extremely dangerous situation in the February 2011 issue, starting on page 25. You can read the article without cost at the Boating Industry Canada web site: www.boatingindustry.ca. Click “Digital Archive” and just fill in your information – access is free.

Kevin Ritz is the ABYC webinar guest speaker and he is extremely knowledgeable on this topic.

While to most, the topic of electricity may seem beyond their understanding, the video is 83 minutes long, and worth every second. You can pause it to pour another coffee (or whatever). Please watch it!
