Mecum Announces Geneva Lake Boat Auction

If you missed the successful 2010 auction, you should know that Mecum Auctions has announced the 2011 Geneva Lake Antique and Classic Boat Auction, the company’s first consignment boat event to be held Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 at The Abbey Resort on Geneva Lake in Fontana, Wis.

Featuring a large variety of 60 boats, Mecum’s Geneva Lake Boat Auction has a vessel to fit everyone’s taste and budget – from thousand-dollar row boats to rare, several hundred-thousand-dollar Chris-Crafts.  Mecum’s Geneva Lake Boat Auction will be held the day after the Annual International Antique and Classic Boat show Sept. 23-24, 2011, and several boats will first participate in the show and then run across the auction block on Sunday.

Among the unique boats going up for bid is a 1986 Wellcraft 38′ Scarab KV 38 (Lot U151), which Wellcraft sent to Universal Studios for use in the hit television show “Miami Vice.”  It was used for all aspects of filming the show, including as the camera platform for “in cockpit” filming, and has undergone a complete bow-to-stern restoration.  Engines are twin 565/650 HP GM blocks that can reach speeds of 80+ mph.

“We believe there is a real growth opportunity in the collector boat hobby that includes specialty fiberglass boats in addition to wooden boats, and we are excited to be on the forefront in offering these types of watercraft to the industry,” said Scott Ales, boat consignment specialist at Mecum Auctions.  “Several other fiberglass brands are expected at the event in September, including Buehler, Donzi, Chris-Craft X19 and two ’70s vintage Magnum Marine twin engine boats.  Many may remember the Magnum name as the third company started by the famous Don Aronow in 1966.  From selling rare wooden classics to multiple award winners, we are proud of Mecum’s reputation for selling high-quality collectible boats.”

During the recent Monterey Auction in August, Mecum sold the Phantasy II, a 1938 19-foot Chris-Craft Race Boat that won Best of Show at Lake Tahoe the week before the auction.  Last year, the auction company sold a 1929 Hacker Craft Runabout known as Typhoon at the 2010 Monterey Auction, and that boat recently won the best Restored Antique Runabout award at the Annual Clayton Antique Boat Show.

Mecum has formed strategic alliances with several companies and individuals in the hobby, including the Antique Boat Center of Ohio, who will be selling a selection of customer boats at the auction.

CMRA

As of July 1st, 2024 the embargo is lifted on the photos and information about Four Winns’ new H9 model and it is stunning!

About a month ago, I traveled to Charlevoix, MI for a special press event to introduce the H9 to a small group of journalists. The water and the weather were a bit cool but the sun was out and Lake Charlevoix was calm and the Four Winns H9 was very impressive. This is a 29-foot 11-inch luxury day boat with a 9- foot 2-inch beam and it features a fabulous expansive flat floor all the way from the bow rider area to the transom and the swim platform.
