The Humber Bay Sailing Centre, one of Canada’s leading Keelboat Sailing School and boat-share club located in the west end of Toronto, is seeking a General Manager. After three successful years with our current General Manager, we are excited to find the right individual to lead our organization into its next phase of growth.

As General Manager, you will have the opportunity to work closely with a committed Board to drive business development and enhance our services. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on delivering exceptional service, executing strategic initiatives, and supporting adult students in reaching their goals.

Our organization, now in its seventh year, has evolved from a volunteer-driven group to a professional operation. As our new General Manager, you will continue this growth trajectory as our key full-time employee. We are looking for a leader who is innovative, collaborative, and capable of working independently to achieve organizational goals.

The ideal candidate will have proven management experience, a strong organizational approach, and an exceptional attention to detail. Key responsibilities include leading a team of independent instructors, driving growth in both our sailing school and boat-sharing club, and handling essential administrative duties.

Relevant Skills and Knowledge
• Degree in Sport Management, Club Management, or equivalent work experience.
• 5 years of experience in a leadership or managerial role.
• Knowledge of sailing and the sailing industry is an asset, but not required.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with the public and represent HBSC daily.
• Sales and customer service experience is essential for this role.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Teams, and other MS platforms.
• Ability to quickly learn and use HBSC registration software.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
• Enthusiastic team player with the ability to work independently.

Role Responsibilities:
• Responsible for creating, implementing, promoting, and selling all education programming.
• Create an inviting environment to encourage instructors to work for HBSC and oversee the recruitment of additional instructors.
• Oversee the management of the Sailing Club, including the sale of club memberships and the delivery of club programs.
• Manage and oversee the club’s physical property, including the premises, facilities, and equipment.
• Effectively manage all direct reports and contractors, including sailing instructors, by fostering a positive working environment through clearly defined duties, proactive communication, and ongoing coaching and performance management.
• Provide managerial oversight of all administrative processes, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and security of systems and practices, and recommend improvements to the Board of Directors as necessary.

The successful candidate will be required to take a VHF(M) Radio Operators Course if they do not currently possess a ROC(M)certificate. Cost for the course is covered by HBSC.

Successful candidate will be required to complete Sail Canada’s mandatory Safe Sport training (Free – 3 hours) before position commences.

A satisfactory police record check will be required before position commences.

Salary: $65,000 – $80,000
