Will Ozempic Help the Boat Business?

Obviously, I think it will and that’s why I’m writing about it this morning. On January 30, I read the Globe & Mail’s Morning Update and the subject was to ask the question, “Will cheaper Ozempic tip the scales?” It turns out that a type two Diabetes drug called Ozempic and several other versions of the same kind of Semaglutide drugs, can result in weight loss and some other health benefits as well. We’ve heard stories that people can lose anywhere from 30 to 40% of their body weight by using these drugs. A once-weekly injection seems to do the trick without a requirement for diet changes or exercise, making it very easy for people to get in better shape.

In my opinion, for lots of people, dropping 30 to 40% of their weight would make them feel pretty good about their appearance. I think they will want to get out there this summer in a bathing suit and show off a bit. Going for a ride in the boat will be much more enjoyable than before when they were embarrassed to be seen. Let’s be honest – the men love to see the ladies in their bikinis and the ladies like to be seen if they feel they look good. This topic may seem like a serious departure from our normal business-focused editorial, but selling boats and increasing participation in boating is probably our number one interest.

This summer, the patents on Semaglutide drugs come off and generic versions are launching here in Canada first. The Globe & Mail speculated that what has been a $275-a-month medication could drop to $75, opening up a far larger market.

Ozempic and others could well bring about a boom in Boating participation this summer.

I’m in favour of it!
