Marine Technician

Wright’s Marina is a small, full service marina nestled in the Byng Inlet of Northeast Georgian Bay. Our parent company, Hindson Marina is a large, full-service marina nestled in the southwest corner of beautiful Penetanguishene Harbour. As the largest independently owned marina on Georgian Bay, we understand the importance of growing and training our marine technicians with top brands in the industry such as Mercury, Mercruiser, Volvo Penta gas & diesel, Raymarine and Garmin. Schooling through these top brands is available to our staff, as well as the ability to work and learn alongside our trained and certified service technicians, advisors, and managers.
We employ state-of-the-art Technical Tools, Equipment and Training to service any boat throughout Ontario waterways
- Volvo-Penta, Mercury, Mercruiser, Yanmar
- Fully equipped, full size van for anything needed to repair a vessel waterside through our Vessel Down Service
Essential Job Functions
- Work with a variety of gas and diesel engines
- Understand principles of marine propulsion, fuel and electrical systems
- Manage work order process end-to-end following industry best practices alongside Service Writers
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of repair orders and completed work
- Perform battery disconnects, winterization and summer commissioning of boats
- Perform diagnostic functions leading to a repair estimate
- Work diligently to ensure proper documentation of completed work, estimates, and recommendations
- Complete water testing of equipment as necessary
- Maintain manufacturer certification as required
- Perform maintenance/repair on transmissions/reverse gear, outdrives and POD systems (Volvo Penta IPS and ZF Zeus)
- Perform maintenance/repairs on AC/DC on board electrical systems.
- Perform maintenance/repairs to various on board domestic and accessory systems.
- Other duties as required.
- Attend factory training (Volvo Penta, Mercury, Yanmar, Kohler, Raymarine, ABYC) as required
- Carry out any other duties that may be requested by the Service Manager
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Commitment to continually strive to meet or exceed the highest level of customer experience
- Follow, understand and practice all Hindson Marina policies and procedures (ex: workplace health and safety, environmental, vacation, time off, etc)
- Report any incidents and/or accidents directly and immediately to your supervisor
Requirements:
- Have attended a Marine Engine Technician Training Program or other motive power training program (i.e., automotive, truck/ coach, heavy equipment, motorcycle and powersports)
- Minimum 5 year working experience as a marine technician or related motive trade (automotive, truck/ coach, heavy equipment, motorcycle and powersports)
- Possession of a valid Small Engine Repair Certificate and/or Diploma preferred
- Possession of a valid G license, Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC), or Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP)
- Possession of necessary tools and tool box
- Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR Certification is an asset
- Retail marine parts experience is an asset
- Experience with LightSpeed computer software or a marine oriented POS system considered an asset
