Fair warning…
A recent article in Bloomberg News resonated with me because this spring, the most common questions or comments I am getting from our Canadian Yachting Media consumer readers, regards insurance and the rising cost of coverage.
Things have been pretty hairy lately with the California wildfires, weather disasters in Australia and big hurricane losses for boat owners in the southern US, Eastern Seaboard and the Caribbean in recent years. The story in Bloomberg pointed out that climate change is making hurricanes bigger and stronger, and the main point to the story was that it may soon push them farther north. Canada’s homeowners, boat owners, businesses and insurers underestimate that escalating risk, according to one of the world’s leading reinsurance firms.

Parks Canada advises that the Peterborough Lift Lock will begin the 2021 Navigation Season operating on a modified basis to allow for needed repairs. The Peterborough Lift Lock National Historic Site of Canada was built in 1904 and has been in continuous operation for 117 years, providing visitors with safe and enjoyable experiences.

Ritchie mourns loss of owner Paul Sherman and his wife Joan
Paul Frederick Sherman, owner of Ritchie Navigation, passed away peacefully on March 20 at the age of 81, followed by his wife of 55 years, Joan, on April 4. Sherman led the Pembroke, Massachusetts-based company from 1966 through 2020. His son and current company president, Jon Sherman, shared the sad announcement.
