Joe Derie on “Introduction to Marine Accident Investigation”

Date: Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. EST

Notes: “Introduction to Marine Accident Investigation: This webinar introduces ABYC’s new Marine Accident Investigation Certification Class which is scheduled to premier in the fall. The class is designed for marine accident investigators; marine surveyors who do damage claim work for insurance companies and also work for attorneys; as well as marine technicians who work on damaged vessels. Topics include the prerequisite basic knowledge requirements for marine accident investigators, Evidence Collection, Collision/Allision Analysis, Fire Analysis, and Failure analysis and Other Accidents. The webinar will introduce these subjects and discuss some of the basic skills required to successfully investigate all types of marine accidents.” 

Ed Sherman on Using A TDR to Trace On Board Electrical Faults

Date: Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. EST

Notes: Historically TDR’s have been used almost exclusively by telecom and military technicians to trace wire and cable run faults. This is in large part due to the restrictive cost of TDR instruments. In recent years that has changed with the introduction of cost effective alpha-numeric TDR devices. Today you can get into the game for under $500. After this session the attendee will understand clearly how they can save many countless hours tracing wire runs on boats. The time you’ll save following the techniques presented in this webinar will pay for the TDR in no time. John Adey on “What has just Changed in the ABYC Standards”

Duncan Peacock, resident of Kitimat BC and member of Kitimat Marine Search and Rescue and RCMSAR Unit 63, has been awarded the 12th annual Tim Jones Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Outdoor Community in British Columbia.

Peacock has been a member of Kitimat Marine Search and Rescue and RCMSAR Unit 63 for 31 years, making him one of the longest-serving members in the province.
