Collins Bay Marina Wins National Environment Award

 

Hub Steenbakkers, (on right of picture) of Collins Bay Marina, Kingston, Ontario, is this year’s recipient of the Natural Marine/ Mason’s Chandlery National Environment Award.

 

This blown glass trophy, in the form of a hollow raindrop, that has trapped air from the year 2000, was created by Shirley Elford, Clairford Studios, Hamilton, Ontario. Elford is the artist who creates the annual Canadian Juno Awards. The National Environment Award  was commissioned and presented by Bill Milne, President of Natural Marine.

 

The award was presented to Hub Steenbakkers at the 26th annual Yachtsman’s Spring Thaw Luncheon, held on April 29th at the Boulevard Club in Toronto

 

Hub Steenbakkers is one of only 240 people in the world certified as a Marina Manager by the International Marina Institute. Hub and his wife Michelle were instrumental in helping get the national Clean Marine Program instituted and this program is now applied in hundreds of marinas across Ontario and now in other areas of Canada.

 

Steenbakkers is a competitive sailor, skier, windsurfer and cyclist as well as a marina owner / operator and the environment is close to his heart. Collins Bay Marina and the Steenbakkers are an ideal choice for this 2011 National Environment Award.
