Back in April we wrote about North American Safe Boating Awareness Week that will take place across both Canada and the United States from May 20th to May 26th, 2023. In Canada, this initiative is managed by the CSBC (Canadian Safe Boating Council) and its partners, is to promote safe and responsible boating practices.

Being ready to support North American Safe Boating Awareness Week to your customers is a smart business move.

In Canada, 16 million people enjoy recreational boating. That number went up dramatically during Covid-19. While the urgency of the pandemic has diminished, the sudden attraction of boats and boating remains strong. We still have a ‘new’ to boating group that is giving a valuable boost to most marine businesses and these new boaters have made boating safety information more critical than ever before.

The Canadian Safe Boating Council, (CSBC.ca) has a wide range of information and resources on their website and you can access and use the resources in your business.

There are five key boating safety messages directed towards the most common boating related accidents. They include:

1. Wear a lifejacket
2. Boat sober.
3. Be prepared. Both you and your boat.
4. Take a boating course
5. Be aware of cold water risks.

As well, you’ll find more great boat safety information at BetterBoater.ca or STARTBoating.ca

We hope you find those resources useful and from everyone here at Canadian Yachting Media, we wish you a successful summer in 2023!
