Half-time is the right time

Across Canada we are at the half-time of summer 2022, the weather has been mostly great and working in the boat business probably has never looked more attractive.

For your people or those contemplating a career change, this might also be good timing.

There has been a real movement recently with the “work from home” idea where people want more space and leave the city to find that. City house prices have been at record levels but now the rapid rise in interest rates has really dumped cold water on Canada’s red hot real estate market. That has resulted in rising costs for rental apartments and homes. We have read that average rents for Toronto and Vancouver are up 13% to 15% year over year. Really, this just reflects an ongoing shortage of housing in the cities compounded by rising immigration as people arriving in Canada search for places to live.

Boating Industry Canada News Week Digest has recently created a series of profiles of marine industry graduates and in this edition, Allegra Smith-Herriot has profiled the inspiring story of Darrah James.

In each of the four upcoming editions of News Week Digest this August, we will re-run these graduate stories hoping to inspire more people to consider a career in Canada’s marine industry.

Watch for these stories in the coming four weeks and be sure to share them with others. You never know who may know someone who would be inspired by these great stories. We will certainly need more human resources in the coming years.
