  • 2013 NEW YORK YACHT CLUB INVITATIONAL CUP PRESENTED BY ROLEX

    Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club has confirmed that it will compete in the 2013 New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup presented by Rolex, bringing the competition to 20 international teams.  Founded in 1867, the club was named to commemorate The Duke of Edinburgh’s visit in January of 1868, which he did in command of the HMS Galatea.  RPAYC will travel from Newport, Australia, to Newport, Rhode Island, to execute their first-ever assault on the Corinthian championship that will be held from September 7-14, 2013, on Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island Sound.

  • 2013 WOW REGATTA

    Since 2008, over 600 women have attended WOW boating events. On Saturday June 22nd WOW is having it’s 3rd annual WOW Regatta (for women only). So if you have never raced before or race all the time, this will be The Regatta to attend. Women racing women; bring your boat or crew with someone else, racing cost is $25 per person which includes a goodie bag. There will be a crew bank posted on Facebook. We will wrap up the evening with a dinner and awards presentation to which everyone (guys included) are invited, RSVP required cost TBA.  There is a limit of 10 boats, so sign up quickly!

  • AMERICAN BOATING CONGRESS SETS RECORD ATTENDANCE, PARTICIPATION IN RECENT YEARS

    The 2013 American Boating Congress  was a success for the recreational boating industry: Attendance increased 25 percent from 160 to 200 and the number of co-hosts increased 138 percent from 13 to 31, compared to last year. The increase in participants from all sectors of the recreational boating community resulted in more than 250 meetings with Members of Congress, up 34 percent from last year's 187 visits, creating a more unified voice and making the boating industry's presence known on Capitol Hill.

  • MARLOW MARINE CRUISING CLUB HOSTS ITS ANNUAL SPRING RENDEZVOUS

    The Marlow Marine Cruising Club 18th Annual Spring Rendezvous was held on April 25 thru 28 at the Ocean Reef Club, a private resort in Key Largo, Florida. Members and guests arrived by boat, plane and car to attend this highly anticipated event. Guests were treated royally and everyone’s expectations were exceeded. The first of many surprises planned over the 4 day event was the exterior washing of their boat. Our detailers were ready to hop on board as soon as the vessel docked.

    After members received their welcome bag, filled with all sorts of useful items, at registration, everyone’s attention turned to the evening’s Welcome Reception. A beautiful setting on the upstairs terrace lent itself to a gorgeous sunset and later a full moon with its light rays dancing on the water.

  • GOVERNMENT FREEZES RECREATIONAL LOCKAGE FEES FOR THREE YEARS

    The Honourable Peter Kent, Canada's Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, today announced that recreational lockage fees along Canada's historic canals will remain frozen for the next three years at 2008 levels.

    Volvo Penta today announced two key appointments to solidify its marine leisure sales team. The company has appointed Tony Kelleher as director, marine leisure sales, Region Americas and Rick Richert as regional sales manager.
     
    Kelleher, who has been with Volvo Penta since 2006, will be responsible for managing strategic direction and sales of Volvo Penta gas and diesel engines in the leisure marine segment for North America and the Caribbean, with emphasis on day-to-day operations including programs, plans, budgets and overseeing the growing sales team.

  • CSBC SIGNS INTERNATIONAL NATIONAL LIFEJACKET WEAR PRINCIPLES

    An idea that began with a meeting of international delegates at the CSBC Symposium in Gravenhurst, Muskoka last September has taken flight. On May 1, 2013, Australia, Canada, France, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the United States signed the International Lifejacket Wear Principles during the week of the Marine13 Conference in Sydney. The majority of all fatal boating incident victims drown and of these, around four out of five are reported as not wearing a lifejacket across these nations.  This collaboration by some of the most prominent boating safety authorities and organisations in the world aims to promote lifejacket wear and prevent death by drowning.

    A touching story of appreciation in a way only a mother could express herself, with cookies and a beautifully written letter.
    Jordan Hanssen, recently rescued OAR Northwest transatlantic rower, sponsored by the Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) made great efforts to visit his rescuers at two USCG stations for “Military Appreciation Month” last week.

    Both the Clearwater and Miami Coast Guard Air Stations involved in the early April rescue received a gratitude visit from Jordan, who also presented them with a “Thank You” plaque. But what really resonated with the Miami and Clearwater rescue crews were the homemade cookies sent to them

    A basic agenda for the 2014 International Marina & Boatyard Conference (IMBC) is now available. IMBC is produced by the Association of Marina Industries (AMI), and will take place January 29–31, 2014, at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

    Show organizers are looking to the most well received aspects of the conference, such as themed networking events and seminars broken into specific tracks, to develop the 2014 agenda. The three- day agenda includes two full days of educational sessions, exhibit hall hours, and evening receptions.

  • REC BOAT HOLDINGS ENTERS JET BOAT MARKET

    Rec Boat Holdings, maker of Four Winns, Glastron and Wellcraft brands, has announced their entry into the jet boat segment, re-launching the Scarab brand as a jet boat line, as well as two new jet models in the Glastron line. The new boats are scheduled to roll out as soon as this summer.
