  • MP DAN ALBAS REFERENCES NMMA CANADA MEETINGS RAISING CONCERNS OVER BARRIERS TO TRADE

    National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) announced that on Thursday May 23rd, 2013, Member of Parliament (MP) Dan Albas, Okanagan-Coquihalla, made reference to his meetings with members of NMMA in the House of Commons during a debate on Bill S-12. In his remarks, Albas cites concerns made by members of NMMA as evidence for the need to improve trade for Canadian industries. NMMA Canada is pleased that our annual meetings in Ottawa for Day on the Hill created momentum in government and that the concerns of our members are being voiced by Members of Parliament in the House of Commons.

  • CPS FLAG RELAY VISITS PENETANGUISHENE ON ITS WAY WEST

    To honour its 75th anniversary the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron has undertaken a journey west to Vancouver Island, BC and East to Avalon, Nfld.  On May 28th the flag made its stop at Penetanguishene, ON and was presented by Andy Myers, Power Squadron Commander for Penetanguishene. 1938 was the year that Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons (CPS-ECP) started its journey. Three members of the Windsor Yacht Club took the Junior Piloting Course at the Detroit Power Squadron in 1937 and instructed the first course in Windsor in 1938.  In honour of this 75th milestone in our history, two specially designed CPS anniversary flags arrived by boat from the United States depicting where we grew from.  These flags were

  • 2013 NEW YORK YACHT CLUB INVITATIONAL CUP PRESENTED BY ROLEX

    Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club has confirmed that it will compete in the 2013 New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup presented by Rolex, bringing the competition to 20 international teams.  Founded in 1867, the club was named to commemorate The Duke of Edinburgh’s visit in January of 1868, which he did in command of the HMS Galatea.  RPAYC will travel from Newport, Australia, to Newport, Rhode Island, to execute their first-ever assault on the Corinthian championship that will be held from September 7-14, 2013, on Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island Sound.

    Since 2008, over 600 women have attended WOW boating events. On Saturday June 22nd WOW is having it’s 3rd annual WOW Regatta (for women only). So if you have never raced before or race all the time, this will be The Regatta to attend. Women racing women; bring your boat or crew with someone else, racing cost is $25 per person which includes a goodie bag. There will be a crew bank posted on Facebook.   • AMERICAN BOATING CONGRESS SETS RECORD ATTENDANCE, PARTICIPATION IN RECENT YEARS

    The 2013 American Boating Congress  was a success for the recreational boating industry: Attendance increased 25 percent from 160 to 200 and the number of co-hosts increased 138 percent from 13 to 31, compared to last year. The increase in participants from all sectors of the recreational boating community resulted in more than 250 meetings with Members of Congress, up 34 percent from last year's 187 visits, creating a more unified voice and making the boating industry's presence known on Capitol Hill.
