  • SURVIVOR’S MOM SENDS COOKIES TO UNITED STATES COAST GUARD

    A touching story of appreciation in a way only a mother could express herself, with cookies and a beautifully written letter.
    Jordan Hanssen, recently rescued OAR Northwest transatlantic rower, sponsored by the Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) made great efforts to visit his rescuers at two USCG stations for “Military Appreciation Month” last week.

    Both the Clearwater and Miami Coast Guard Air Stations involved in the early April rescue received a gratitude visit from Jordan, who also presented them with a “Thank You” plaque. But what really resonated with the Miami and Clearwater rescue crews were the homemade cookies sent to them

  • IMBC 2014 SCHEDULE-AT-A-GLANCE NOW AVAILABLE


    A basic agenda for the 2014 International Marina & Boatyard Conference (IMBC) is now available. IMBC is produced by the Association of Marina Industries (AMI), and will take place January 29–31, 2014, at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

    Show organizers are looking to the most well received aspects of the conference, such as themed networking events and seminars broken into specific tracks, to develop the 2014 agenda. The three- day agenda includes two full days of educational sessions, exhibit hall hours, and evening receptions.

  • REC BOAT HOLDINGS ENTERS JET BOAT MARKET

    Rec Boat Holdings, maker of Four Winns, Glastron and Wellcraft brands, has announced their entry into the jet boat segment, re-launching the Scarab brand as a jet boat line, as well as two new jet models in the Glastron line. The new boats are scheduled to roll out as soon as this summer.

    A long-term supply agreement with BRP's Marine Propulsion Systems division enables the company to power the new boats with its quality Rotax 4-TEC 1503 jet propulsion system.

  • NMMA RELEASES NEW U.S. ECONOMIC IMPACT REPORT AT AMERICAN BOATING CONGRESS

    During May 8 and 9, 2013 the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) released their updated economic impact data for the recreational boating industry during the American Boating Congress. The update reflects 2012 data across the United States and has been formatted as an easy-to-use infographic, reflecting data in a highly visual way.
     
    In 2013 NMMA’s Center of Knowledge contracted with the Recreational Marine Research Center at Michigan State University to update the 2008 Economic Value of Recreational Boating at the State and Congressional District Level. Each state and district datasheet includes the “total annual

  • SIX METRE REUNION AND CELEBRATION – GREAT MEMORIES AND FELLOWSHIP

    On April 28th fifty Six Metre devotees gathered at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club to celebrate the history of this famous class. This was the third in a series of four Heritage Luncheons in honour of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club, and this event focused on that amazing period in the late 1940s to the early 1960s when the Six Metre was the premier racing yacht on Lake Ontario, and when nine of these
    exceptionally beautiful boats sailed out of RHYC.

  • MARLOW-HUNTER SHIPS 100th SAILBOAT AND FIRST POWER BOAT

    Marlow-Hunter LLC, the corporation that bought the assets of Hunter Marine Corporation and selected assets of Mainship Corporation out of  a CH.11 proceeding,  shipped its 100th keel sailboat since closing on the purchase in mid-August.  Simultaneously, the first Mainship produced at the Marlow-Hunter facility, which was recently introduced at the Miami International Boat show was shipped.

  • CPS-ECP FLAG RELAY KICKED OFF MAY 5TH AT WINDSOR YACHT CLUB

    1938 was the year that Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons (CPS-ECP) started its journey. Three members of the Windsor Yacht Club took the Junior Piloting Course at the Detroit Power Squadron in 1937 and instructed the first course in Windsor in 1938.  In honour of this 75th milestone in our history, two specially designed CPS anniversary flags arrived by boat from the United States depicting where we grew from.  These flags were delivered by USPS Chief Commander John Alter, SN and received by CPS Chief Commander Richard Bee, AP on May 5 at the Windsor Yacht Club.

  • NMMA CANADA RELEASES NEW CANADIAN RECREATIONAL BOATING INDUSTRY ECONOMIC IMPACT STUDY


    The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) announced the release of a study which reveals that Canada’s core recreational boating industry contributed an estimated economic impact of $5 billion and 67,000 jobs throughout Canada in 2012. The “core” recreational boating industry consists of boat and accessory manufacturers, boat and accessory dealers, marina operators, repair and maintenance shops, schools and boat clubs, and various other related companies.

  • NMMA CANADA HOLDS SECOND RECREATIONAL BOATING DAY ON THE HILL

    On May 1, 2013, a group of more than 25 leaders from Canada’s recreational marine industry arrived on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to raise awareness for several of the most pressing issues affecting the boating industry. National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Canada board members and the heads of several marine trade associations gathered in the nation's capital to attend meetings with nearly two-dozen MPs from ridings across Canada, policy makers and members of Transport Canada.

    In the last few months Bruce Kirby, the Canadian designer of the Laser sailboat, the world's most successful racing dinghy ever, and the one-design boat that powers arguably the largest and most significant class in racing, has revealed that for some time, he has not been paid the royalties owed to him by the builders who had contracts to build Kirby's design. Yet, the authorities in the Laser class association with the apparent cooperation of ISAF, the International Sailing Federation have continued to issue official plaques to these unauthorized Laser boats.
