  • MERCURY MARINE ANNOUNCES CHANGES IN FINANCE ORGANIZATION

    Mercury Marine has announced several appointments within its global finance organization.
     
    Bob Flesch has been named director of global operations – Finance. In this role, Flesch has financial responsibility for manufacturing, distribution, procurement, capital expenditures, product development and engineering, Mercury Racing and Mercury Marine’s manufacturing operations in Asia.
     
    Flesch has been with Mercury Marine for 26 years, and has held a number of finance and strategy positions of increasing responsibility. He was most recently Mercury’s division controller for commercial operations. Flesch holds a bachelor’s of science and a master’s of business administration degree from the University of Wisconsin –Oshkosh.

    The National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) has just released an extensively upgraded version of NMEA 2000®, the industry's open architecture network standard. New Edition 3.00 replaces version 2.20 and includes updates and additions to the NMEA Network Message Database, NMEA 2000® Main Document, and NMEA 2000® Appendices A and D.

  • MEDIATION RESULTS IN POSITIVE NEWS FOR 2013 VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW

    The show organizers are very happy to report there is no longer a threat to the Vancouver Boat Show as a result of the labour mediation process between BC Place and BCGEU.
     
    While an employment agreement has not yet been reached, it has been confirmed there will be no threat of job action during the Vancouver Boat Show, or the move-in and move-out.
     
    This positive news comes following five very long days of mediation, and a decision today to break from mediation until after the event.
     
    The parties have put in a tremendous effort and have been able to come to an agreement on the non-monetary changes to the collective agreement.

  • BOOT DÜSSELDORF GAVE WATER SPORTS INDUSTRY NEEDED BOOST

    Despite ice, snow and airport strikes, the recent staging of boot 2013 Düsseldorf, 44th International Boat Show Düsseldorf, in Germany attracted 226,300 visitors (45,000 came from 50 countries other than Germany). A total of 1,674 exhibitors from 63 nations showcased their yachting innovations and new water sports equipment and reported good business.
     
    “The existing circumstances could not have been less favorable for a trade fair event which is mostly targeted at end users. On more than half of the event days, the weather made it very difficult to get to the show. Many international guests who had booked flights had to cancel their visit to boot. But we still met the expectations of our exhibitors,” stated Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, President and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf. “The first days and the second weekend were extremely well attended. And the visitors who came had the economic potential to give the industry the boost it had been hoping for.”

  • TIDE TURNING FOR CANADIAN BOATING INDUSTRY

    Canadian recreational boating industry reports thirteen percent increase in new boats and engine sales totaling $2 billion
     
    The Canadian recreational boating industry began to see the tide turn for new boat and outboard engine sales with an estimated thirteen percent increase from October 2011 through September 2012 compared to the same period the previous year, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) second annual 2012 Canadian Statistical Abstract. The Abstract reveals statistics on Canada’s recreational boating retail sales, participation and boater demographics, the overall retail market, imports/exports and economic factors which impact the industry.
