TACO Marine has entered one of its new products in the competition for an IBEX 2020 Innovation Award – the patented boat shade product known as ShadeFin™ for “Shadow In Seconds.”
ShadeFin easily attaches into rod holders, tops and gunnels for convenient, portable shade for almost any boat. To operate ShadeFin, remove the sleeve, mount to a desired location onboard and activate the underside release tabs. Structural ribs attached to weather-resistant sun-protecting fabric expand out from the body to lock the fin in place.
ShadeFin’s fabric provides a UPF 50+ rating of sun protection for multiple areas of the boat, including fore, aft and sides of tops and anywhere there is a rod holder. It pairs with either a fixed or adjustable rod holder mount, which insert into any standard rod holder, a hardtop bracket mount, the TACO Marine Grand Slam 170 Outrigger or 170-2 Center Rigger Mounts, or with a fixed or adjustable clamp-on mount for pipe or tube.
ShadeFin is slated to be featured in the TACO Marine booth at virtual IBEX, September 29 – October 2, and the winning products will be announced via livestream prior to the opening of virtual IBEX on Tuesday, September 29.

The next boot, as scheduled in the trade fair calendar, will open its doors from 22 to 30 January 2022. Under the given circumstances, an implementation on the planned date in April is no longer guaranteed, says Wolfram N. Diener, CEO of Messe Düsseldorf: "The continuing high level of infection and the fact that the end of the lockdown is not foreseeable for the time being make a resumption of trade fair operations at the end of April appear increasingly unrealistic.

Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) has these four tips to ensure there are no surprises at spring commissioning.
• Water is bad. The number-one concern for any boat in long-term winter storage is water. It can’t be allowed in, but if it does, the water needs a way out. Check your boat’s winter cover to ensure it still allows rain and heavy snow loads to easily shed away from the boat.
