Smartgyro Introduces Battery-Powered Integration for SG20 Stabilizer

November 25, 2025

Presented at Metstrade, the new battery-powered SG20 marks another step forward in Smartgyro’s evolution toward quieter, more efficient stabilization.

Smartgyro, a global innovator in marine stabilization technology, introduced a new battery-powered integration for its SG20 gyroscopic stabilizer at Metstrade.

The SG20 delivers uninterrupted comfort, even when the generator is off, marking the latest milestone in Smartgyro’s mission to engineer stabilization systems that respond to real-world needs and redefine onboard experience.

Designed for owners who seek not only stability but also silence, the new system enables operation of the SG20 delivering smooth, whisper-quiet moments on board, whether enjoying dinner at anchor, a peaceful night on the water, or a serene pause between destinations.

Carlo Gazerro, Sales Manager at Smartgyro, said: “Owners today expect comfort to be immediate, seamless, and quiet. With this integration, we’ve responded to a real need in the 40–55 ft segment, delivering powerful stabilization without the background noise of a generator. That means greater freedom, more enjoyable moments on board, and an added benefit for our dealer network: a solution that’s easier to recommend, integrate, and tailor to owner expectations.”

Innovation Inspired by Owners

The project originated following direct feedback from owners of 40–55 ft yachts who wanted to benefit from Smartgyro stabilization without keeping the generator running continuously. Smaller generators, often operating at high RPMs, can be a primary source of unwanted background noise.

In response, Smartgyro developed a flexible power integration that allows the SG20 to operate seamlessly on battery power for extended periods, maintaining stabilization performance and system reliability. The result: complete control, unmatched silence, and freedom to experience the sea on your own terms.

“We work closely with owners and shipyards to push the boundaries of onboard performance, comfort, and efficiency. This project is the result of that dialogue, and it’s already showing remarkable results in the field.” commented Fabrizio Stifani, R&D Manager at Smartgyro.

“We’re also exploring future enhancements, such as a smart adaptive speed function designed to balance performance and energy efficiency, further evolving our approach to intelligent, quiet, and sustainable stabilization.”

Proven Performance

As part of its innovation roadmap, Smartgyro tested the new setup on board a Ferretti 52, integrating the SG20 with a 6 kWh Mastervolt battery pack. The system has been operational for two years, consistently delivering the same stability and reliability owners expect from Smartgyro, now with a new level of peace and quiet.

The owner confirms the results achieved on board: “I was looking for a stabilizer that could perform in any sea state, but also operate quietly during the most peaceful hours on board. The SG20’s battery integration makes that possible: it runs for hours without the generator, while still delivering the stabilization I count on. It’s reliable, flexible, and perfectly fits the way I enjoy life on board.”

System Highlights

              • Smart interface: real-time display of battery status and stabilizer performance through the Smartgyro UI.

              • Up to 5 hours of generator-free operation with Smartgyro night-mode, ideal for quiet anchorages.

              • Tested and approved configurations ensure seamless integration and top-tier reliability.

Approved Configurations:

              • Mastervolt: MLI Ultra 12/6000 (6 kWh) + CombiMaster 12/3000-100 (230V)

              • Victron: Coming soon – LiFePO4 Battery 25.6V/300Ah NG + MultiPlus 24/5000/120-100 (230V Sinewave)
