Wescom Group New sMRT ALERT Man Overboard

Apr 30, 2024

Wescom group is delighted to announce that the firstĀ of its new series of distress beacons is now available worldwide*Ā through itsĀ distributors and retailers.Ā
Ā
The sMRT ALERT AIS DSC Man Overboard deviceĀ offers enhanced localised recovery with simplified fitting, fasterĀ activationĀ and wearer acknowledgments.Ā Ā It is the firstĀ in a series of new beacons produced at Wescom Groupā€™s newly-openedĀ manufacturing facility in Hull, UK. Previewed at METSTRADE in November, the sMRTĀ ALERTā€™s user-focusedĀ safety features were recognised with a DAME Awards specialĀ mention accolade.
Ā
The sMRT ALERTā€™s innovative features include two-wayĀ signalling, real-time location tracking via AIS (AutomaticĀ IdentificationĀ System) and uses DSC (Digital Selective Calling) to alert nearby vessels to theĀ call for help.
Ā
The sMRT ALERT is also oneĀ of the first products on the market designed to meet the new Class M regulationĀ ECCĀ Decision (22)02, which will restrict AIS only MOB devices use of core AISĀ channels in certain countries from JanuaryĀ 2025. Only class M devices such asĀ the ALERT ā€“ those with GNSS and internal DSC receiver – will be compliant withĀ theĀ new regulations.
Ā
The sMRT ALERT alsoĀ includes a beacon management app to connect the beacon to a smart phone, enablingĀ users toĀ check on activation status and the powerĀ reservesĀ in the five-year battery.
Ā
Wescom Group CEO Ross WilkinsonĀ stated:
Ā
ā€œThe Wescom productĀ range is synonymous with high quality and reliability, and we are taking thisĀ dedication toĀ marine safety into our newly launched electronics division. Itā€™sĀ fantastic to see the first of our new distress beaconsĀ leave the factory and weĀ look forward to introducing the full range in the coming months.ā€
Ā
The sMRT ALERT costs from Ā£270 RRP and isĀ now available worldwide* through Wescom Groupā€™s network ofĀ internationalĀ distributors.Ā
