Mercury Marine Launches Two Important Construction Projects
Mercury Marine has launched two important construction projects to support growth and the company’s commitment to provide the most advanced products, and to increase manufacturing capacity within its Fond du Lac facilities.
The areas under expansion include product development and engineering, component manufacturing and fabrication.
The enhanced capacity and operations will be fully operational by the end of 2013. The total cost will near $20 million.
Mercury will enhance and expand the capacity of product-testing within its engineering operations, including accommodation of work related to the addition of diesel products that came to Fond du Lac from the recently dissolved CMD joint venture in Charleston, S.C., as well as sterndrive and inboard operations that were moved to Fond du Lac from the former Mercury MerCruiser facilities in Stillwater, Okla.
Mercury employs more than 5,000 people worldwide, approximately 2,550 of whom work in Fond du Lac. Mercury employed approximately 1,600 people in Fond du Lac in September 2009.
Approximately 90 percent of the construction projects will be performed by companies in the Fond du Lac area or Wisconsin.
Construction will produce minimal impact on employees and their work and no disruption to public roads or traffic patterns.
