BC Marine Search and Rescue Responder Duncan Peacock wins 12th Annual Tim Jones Award

Duncan Peacock, resident of Kitimat BC and member of Kitimat Marine Search and Rescue and RCMSAR Unit 63, has been awarded the 12th annual Tim Jones Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Outdoor Community in British Columbia.
Peacock has been a member of Kitimat Marine Search and Rescue and RCMSAR Unit 63 for 31 years, making him one of the longest-serving members in the province.
His contributions to the organization include leading rescue missions as a coxswain, mechanical operations and repairs, writing grants to secure funding, training and mentoring new volunteers, and organizing community events such as Canada Day parade. He has responded to more than 120 search and rescue missions and contributed more than 4,300 hours to training.
He is known as a humble leader who is quietly dedicated to his community and to marine safety.
Tim Jones Award jury member Mike Danks says Peacock embodies the spirit of the award.
“[Peacock is] humble, passionate, and deeply committed to serving others. A jack-of-all-trades with the drive to excel while lifting up those around him,” Danks said.
Peacock was one of many individuals across BC who have made a profound impact to outdoor safety whom were nominated for the award, but award jury member Richard Walton says it was Peacock’s length of service that stood out.
“His leadership is quiet, but his commitment to marine safety is lifelong and passionate,” Walton said.
The award ceremony took place on Saturday, March 1, during the Steep and Deep Show at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival in North Vancouver.
About the Tim Jones Award
Established in 2014, the Tim Jones Award is awarded each year to a community member who has made an outstanding contribution to the BC sport and outdoor community. This award is in memoriam of the late and great Tim Jones, paramedic and chief for over 24 years of North Shore Rescue, BC. It represents Tim’s legacy and serves as an inspiration to the community to selflessly help and support others.
