BOAT DOCKING SYSTEMS PROTECTS AGAINST STORM SURGES AND HIGH TIDES

The 2015 Atlantic hurricane season has arrived, with forecasters predicting as many as 11 named storms, six of which could become hurricanes before the season officially ends on November 30.

In previous hurricanes – including devastating Katrina – the SlideMoor™ Boat Docking System has helped boat owners and boatyards protect boats from damage caused by storm surge and abnormally high tides.

The SlideMoor system secures a boat tightly to a sliding bumper.

A Luhrs owned by Roy Bellinger of Slidell, Louisiana survived Hurricane Katrina, thanks to his SlideMoor™ system. “When I purchased my two oversized 16’ SlideMoors for my Luhrs Nelda Bell I was thinking of the big surge that can happen in the Gulf,” Bellinger said. “With Katrina, we had sustained winds of over 150 mph and a 20 foot surge that destroyed my home, business and all that was in them. I thought I was homeless. As the devastation was assessed, I was completely shocked to see that my boat was the only one to survive in the area! SlideMoor saved our boat and provided us with a home until we were able to get back on our feet,” he added.

Ron Parr, owner of Parr Marine Construction in Punta Gorda, Florida, saved three boats from damage during Hurricane Charley with SlideMoor™ systems. “We installed three different sets for three different boats. A 52’ boat, a 44’ Catamaran and a 32’ Sea Ray. The hurricane came through and it devastated this community, with the exception of those three boats. The other boats around them suffered dramatically, but the three boats on SlideMoor stayed just where they were. Didn’t even twist their pilings. We were kind of flabbergasted. From that day forward we started making it a priority where if you weren’t going to put your boat up on the lift where it can be secured you need to be on SlideMoors,” Parr said.

SlideMoor systems have been installed at docks in over 25 countries and can be used on lakes, rivers, bays, canals and most other waterways. The system accommodates boats up to 90 feet and well over 160,000 pounds.

No permits are required in most areas to install a SlideMoor system at any public, private or marina dock.
