Glenn Spartz Scholarship Recipients

Aug 21, 2016

Boating BC Association is extremely pleased to announce the inaugural recipients of the Glenn Spartz Scholarship. Announced earlier this year, the Scholarship is a response to the ongoing need for qualified technicians in the recreational marine industry, and offers financial aid to students pursuing their Marine Mechanical Technician Apprenticeship (MMT) offered at BCIT’s Annacis Island campus.

The first four recipients of the Glenn Spartz Scholarship are:

• Joseph Cervantes, New Westminster, BC

• Derek Fairclough, Mission, BC

• Darryl Stanley, Surrey, BC

• Nicholas Meakin. Peachland, BC

“We’re very pleased to be able to offer financial assistance to these four apprentices,” says Don Prittie, President of Boating BC. “We have such a high demand for certified technicians – there are tremendous opportunities ahead for all of our scholarship recipients, who will be starting in Level One of the MMT program this fall.”

The Boating BC Scholarship Fund is an industry initiative with contributing partners from the marine propulsion sector including: BRP/Evinrude, Honda Marine, Yamaha, Volvo Penta, Mercury Marine and Yanmar/Land Sea Power.

Scholarship applications are still being accepted for individuals applying for the Level Two intake into the MMT program at BCIT, which commences in January, 2017. The application deadline is September 23, 2016 – for full details visit: https://www.boatingbc.ca/cpages/glenn-spartz-scholarship.

The association is very well supported and virtually any significant marine electronics company that you could name, was represented there on the Exhibitor list at the Expo as well as all being NMEA members and very supportive of the organization.
