REMEMBERING ROY APPLEFORD

Roy Appleford

May 15, 2017

We are sorry to report the passing of one of Boating BC’s former directors (1984-1996) and past president, Roy Appleford.

From 1985 to 1989, as president of Boating BC, Roy laid the foundation for many initiatives that are still a considerable part of what drives the Association today. Under his direction, Boating BC entered a joint venture with Canadian National Sportsmen Shows in the shared ownership of the Vancouver International Boat Show and he championed the addition of a floating show. It was pivotal actions like these that demonstrated Roy’s devotion to this industry, the Boating BC membership, and the boating community. Roy also developed relationships with the BC Yacht Brokers Association and the Yacht Charter Association of BC (now the Association of Bareboat Charters & Sailing Schools). These Associations would later join Boating BC as sector groups, growing and strengthening the voice of our membership. Roy was tirelessly committed to this industry and we are grateful for his lasting contributions. His obituary was published in the Vancouver Sun and can be accessed here: http://www.legacy.com .
