ABANDONED VESSELS DO NOT GO AWAY
Jan 15, 2019
The long simmering issue of derelict and abandoned vessels will not go away without significant clean-up costs.
The NMMA has been invited to appear as a witness before the Senate of Canada Transport and Communications Committee reviewing the abandoned vessels legislation. This is the second time NMMA has been invited to appear on this important topic. It was an excellent opportunity to reiterate the message that the NMMA and our marine associations are supportive of the legislation and the creation of a fund to help with the clean-up, but that the fund needs to encompass a bigger agenda which would give back to recreational boaters in the way of things like more public launches. In addition, cleaning up the boats is the first part, but we need viable boat recycling options in Canada.
