2020 U.S. Boating Statistical Abstract: Sailboat Sales Trends Now Available

Aug 10, 2021

The Sailboat Sales Trends section of NMMA’s 2020 U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract is now available on NMMA.org. This report includes production and retail unit sales data, export unit sales by length, import unit sales by length, estimated total annual retail sales, and retail sales by length.

Key insights from the report include:

• Estimated retail unit sales of new sailboats were down 16.7% (800 units) in 2020 to 4,000 units, reflecting declines in both domestic production and imports of sailboats.
• Dollar sales of new sailboats totaled an estimated $237 million in 2020, down 23.7% compared to 2019, correlating to the decrease in retail unit sales.
• Both the number of sailboats imported into and exported out of the U.S. decreased in 2020, with total unit imports exceeding unit exports for the seventh consecutive year.
The remaining section, Pre-Owned Boat Market, and the full edition (digital and printed) of the 2020 U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract will be available later this summer.
