Eight Bells – Leo Hintze

Jan 3, 2023

We are saddened to share the news of Leo Hintze’s sudden passing on Saturday December 17, 2022 at the age of 81.

Leo Hintze came to visit Canada in 1967 as a marine mechanic and worked for Mr. Bulmer at the Toronto waterfront.  Shortly after, he went back to Finland and married his sweetheart Leena and together they came back to Canada to start a family and a new life.

After about 3 years, his next adventure was buying a small property on Healey Lake in cottage country and slowly he started to build a marina. The project carried on for many years. The marina just celebrated 54 years (Mariners’ Cove Marina).  Still family owned, it is the only full-service marina on Healey Lake and customers always ask about Leo and Leena.

He started into real estate in 1987 and worked for Re/Max for over 30 years.  Leo liked to give back to the community as well. He was very involved with the MacTier Lions Club for over 20 years.

Leo Hintze a long-time real estate agent with Re/Max Parry Sound and successful marina operator will be missed.

Leo Hintze passed away suddenly at the West Parry Sound Health Centre, on Saturday, December 17th, 2022 at 81 years of age.

Beloved husband of Leena for 54 years. Loving father of Peter Hintze (Danielle and her children Jason and Breen); and Pia and her husband Kyle Forder. Cherished Ukki of Kiana Forder, Katriina Hintze, and Brigitte Hintze. Dear brother of Brigitte Nykanen and her family. Fondly remembered and missed by other family and friends.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the West Parry Sound Health Centre or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
