Influence back to school plans now

Today is August 1st, 2023 and I call this the mid-point in summer 2023. By now, you should be staffed up and buzzing along with high-season business. It’s also a time to stop and thoughtfully assess the people you have working with you and what plans you might have for their future.

If you are lucky enough to have brought on a bright young employee who seems to like the business, and who you feel would make a good addition to your team, now is the time to “have the talk” about a career in the boat business. More specifically, talk about the training and education they would need to have a career in your company.

A few weeks ago, we ran a story about Georgian College and their courses leading to a career as a Marine Technician. There is huge demand for marine techs and not nearly enough to go around.

Boating Industry Canada recently interviewed Rob Davidson, the Marine Program Coordinator at Georgian College in Midland. Their three-year program can start a young person on a lifetime of business and family success with a comparatively modest investment, earning money almost all the way. Compare that to the literally thousands in student debt many young people rack up for a university degree that may not lead to a career.

We invited Rob Davidson to discuss the value of the Georgian College 3-Year Marine and Small Engine Program and Apprenticeship course.

There are seats still available in the 2023 / 2024 school year. Through Boating Ontario and their Marine Worx program, there may also be financial supports available.

Watch this brief video and share it with your family, summer staff and friends. This may be the opportunity one of your people is looking for:

Here is an example of an interesting opportunity for a Fleet Operations Specialist in the Toronto area that was just posted by Skipperi. Four Winns’ new H9 is stunning!

CMRA

As of July 1st, 2024 the embargo is lifted on the photos and information about Four Winns’ new H9 model and it is stunning!

About a month ago, I traveled to Charlevoix, MI for a special press event to introduce the H9 to a small group of journalists. The water and the weather were a bit cool but the sun was out and Lake Charlevoix was calm and the Four Winns H9 was very impressive. This is a 29-foot 11-inch luxury day boat with a 9- foot 2-inch beam and it features a fabulous expansive flat floor all the way from the bow rider area to the transom and the swim platform.
