The Searial Cleaners by Poralu Marine

The Searial Cleaners are a range of technologies developed by Poralu Marine that address the plastic pollution crisis in our waters.

The cleaners are a range of four technologies – three technologies for the water and one technology for the beach.

Plastic pollution is a continuous growing crisis around the world. The biggest increase in plastic pollution that we have witnessed has been in the last 10 to 20 years.

If we listen to the forecast from scientists, between 8-12 million metric tonnes of plastic escape into the oceans, lakes and rivers every year. It’s estimated that by 2050, the world will have produced 4 times as much plastic compared to today. About 50% of plastics produced worldwide are single use plastics.

And plastic pollution is only expected to grow.

That’s where the Searial Cleaners come in.

The 4 Searial Cleaners technologies: Collec’Thor, InvisiBubble, PixieDrone and BeBot.

The three technologies for the water include Collec’Thor, InvisiBubble and PixieDrone. The technology for the beach is BeBot.

Collec’Thor is a trash skimmer. It’s installed at the water’s edge and/or on floating docks and attracts and collects solid and liquid waste floating on the water surface.

InvisiBubble is a bubble curtain that controls floating waste. The curtain purifies water, redirects debris and sediment, contains hydrocarbons from spreading and protects wildlife.

PixieDrone is a mobile waste collector. It’s a drone that’s either remote-controlled or operated fully autonomously.

BeBot is a beach cleaning robot. This eco-friendly, silent robot screens sand, rakes seaweed, levels out beaches, lifts and carries loads and collects waste buried in a defined area.

All technologies work together in helping eliminate plastics from our waterways. They are easy to use, easy to maintain, high performance and user friendly.

The Searial Cleaners work for marinas, harbours, beaches and more. The technologies are a tangible way for marinas and other organizations to engage and assist the plastic crisis that they are experiencing first-hand on their properties.

The Searial Cleaners have two main goals. The first is to clean the waterways, typically within a specific area like marinas, ports or beaches. The second is to use those technologies to raise awareness about the plastic pollution crisis. Of course, it’s important to have a clean marina, but it’s also important to help data collection and raise awareness.

They want to not only catch physical trash, but to catch people’s attention.

Boating Industry Canada visited Gautier Peers and Stephen Fischer at the Toronto International Boat Show to see Collec’Thor in person

Gautier Peers, Sales and Partnership Associate of the Searial Cleaners comments, “It’s critical to take action against plastic pollution. This problem is so big that it’s almost impossible for a single organization to address it. The ultimate goal for us is not to just deploy these technologies, but to build a global network. Not only can you have your marina clean, but you can help us address this problem. The idea is to join forces and voices to make a stronger impact.”

The Searial Cleaners have generated great success in the past few years. Here are the most recent installations across Canada:

  • 2 Collec’Thors at Friday Harbour Resort in Ontario (the first Collec’Thors in Eastern Canada)
  • 1 Collec’Thor at Marina Le Nautique at St Jean Sur Richelieu in Quebec
  • 1 Collec’Thor at the Steveston Fisherman’s Wharf in Richmond, BC
  • 1 autonomous PixieDrone was purchased for the City of Belleville in Ontario (the first autonomous drone of its kind in Canada and the second in North America)
