Spring Launch Tip: Check out your bilge pump

Apr 2, 2024

On your Spring launch checklist should be a good look at your bilge pump to make sure it’s in good working order for the season ahead.

Check the bilge for debris that may have accumulated over the winter. Test the bilge pump manually. Turn on the pump and make sure that it is pumping water out of the bilge. Check the bilge pump strainer. If necessary, remove the strainer and clean it out. Lubricate the bilge pump shaft with a marine-grade lubricant. Check the bilge pump wiring for fraying or signs of corrosion. Test the bilge pump float switch by pouring water into the bilge until the switch activates.
