Fraud! – be on the lookout for these guys and others!

Boating Ontario

June 25, 2024

Boating Ontario received the following from one of their members in the retail finance sector on June 20th. Please be vigilant and please share this important information with your teams.

In the last few weeks there has been a tremendous amount of fraud happening, this is not only on the financing side but with fake Certified cheques as well. Attached are a few different ID’s for you to look over. Boating Ontario highly recommends asking for more than just a driver’s license for ID. Health cards are not an acceptable form of ID.

“Omer” is on a streak hitting every sort of recreational vehicle including tractors, Sea-Doo’s, and travel trailers. He specializes in using fake certified cheques.

Jason Allen/Alexandre Hetu-Dumaine/Benjamin Sasseville – has gone through three different ID’s and is trying to arrange financing. He has targeted Sea-Doo’s and watercraft so far.

Mikael Larosse – is a fake ID and the bearer is targeting powersports.

In Ontario, if you would like to verify an ID, you can use the Link (below) which will take you to the MTO site and you can pull a Driver’s License check to see if it is valid. But, this is not 100% concrete evidence that it is still not fraudulent!

There are also other ways to protect yourself with payments. This is a platform to help with customer payments and reduce fraud that some Ontario dealers use.

PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ALONG, THESE INDIVIDUALS AFFECT US ALL.
