Dometic advances sustainability with new Marine AC refrigerant technology

Dometic Marine AC Refrigerant Technology

Jan 28, 2025

On January 21st, 2025, Dometic announced the launch of its 2025 marine air conditioning systems, designed with sustainability at their core. New systems utilize newly developed advanced refrigerants with significantly lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) index, aligning with stringent upcoming global environmental regulations.

Dometic aspires to lead the way with its innovative climate control technology to promote a sustainable transition. Recognizing the significant role F-gases play in climate change, Dometic introduces next-generation refrigerants in its 2025 Marine air conditioning systems. This change not only meets upcoming regulatory requirements but also underscores Dometic’s genuine commitment to sustainability and the importance of protecting our planet.

Introducing R-454B and R-32 Refrigerant Technologies

            • R-454B Refrigerant: The R-454B gas delivers a 78% reduction in GWP compared to the commonly used F-Gas R-410A, making it an excellent choice for a wide range of marine air conditioning applications.

            • R-32 Refrigerant: For specific A/C applications, Dometic is transitioning to R-32 technology, which offers a 68% reduction in GWP versus R-410A. This transition contributes to reducing the overall environmental footprint of its systems while maintaining high cooling efficiency.

Revolutionizing Marine Climate Control Systems

To accommodate these advanced refrigerants, Dometic has upgraded its climate control systems with state-of-the-art technology. These upgrades ensure that customers can enjoy the same exceptional performance and reliability they expect from Dometic products, now paired with a significantly lower environmental impact.

“These moves clearly demonstrate a company-wide commitment to build and support the best solutions for the industry while meeting global sustainability goals. Towards this end, Dometic will continue to work closely with organizations such as NMMA and ABYC to develop safe, sustainable solutions,” said Eric Fetchko, Dometic Marine Segment President.

A Commitment to Sustainability

“The use of low GWP refrigerant coupled with our high-performance, variable capacity systems will make Dometic climate solutions one of the most energy-efficient and low-emissions products on the market. This demonstrates that we are always looking for ways to make things better for our OEM customers, boaters, and the planet.” added Fetchko.

The company manufactures a wide range of advanced air conditioning and heating systems for boats ranging from 20 feet to superyachts. All these systems are designed, developed, tested, and built in two state-of-the-art facilities — one in Pompano, Florida, and another in Milan, Italy.

Future-Proofing Marine Technology

Dometic’s efforts align with global trends and regulations targeting the phase-out of high-GWP refrigerants. The company’s proactive stance ensures its products remain at the forefront of compliance while addressing growing environmental concerns.
