Eight Bells – Jan Ploeger

Jan Ploeger

June 3, 2025

PLOEGER, Jan Paul – Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa – Hospice Care on Friday, May 23, 2025 at the age of 50. Beloved son of Barbara (née Prentice) and John Ploeger. Loving father of Chase Ploeger of Keswick and good friend to Tammy Holwell (Chase’s mom). Jan attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic School and Henry Street High School in Whitby and Georgian College in Orillia. From when he was a small child, Jan grew up sailing with his dad and fulfilled his dream of owning Swans Yacht Sales in Whitby. He became a well-known Canadian Dufour and Catalina Yacht dealer and successful boat brokerage. He spent summers living on his beautiful sailboat ARROW at the Whitby Marina, sailing and racing it.

Jan will be greatly missed by his many colleagues, co-workers, customers in sailing, many friends and his cousins: Jacob and Andrea Ploeger of Port Perry, Ruth Prentice of Kitchener and Anne Marie Greenwood of Nova Scotia. Visitation was held at W.C. Town Funeral Chapel in Whitby on Thursday, May 29, 2025. A private interment will take place for family and close friends at St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, Port Whitby at a later date. Jan’s family requests that in lieu of sending flowers, memorial donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Jan’s name. Condolences may be expressed online at www.wctownfuneralchapel.com.
