A Wave of Celebrations This Summer

You may not have noticed but at the top of every issue of Boating Industry Canada News Week Digest we list that the Volume and Issue Number. What that means in publishing terms, is that this is the 20th year of publishing Boating Industry Canada News Week Digest, so we have a bit of an Anniversary to celebrate. I mention this because our anniversary is far from being the only one. This year is also the 50th Anniversary of Canadian Yachting / Canadian Boating magazine.

I have a big pile of back issues and I have to admit, it’s a rabbit hole that I love to go down,  flipping through the old issues and remembering the various stories, the people and events that have taken place over all these years. My very first-ever boat review was in that first year of publication. Click here (Page 1, Page 2) if you would like to see a PDF of that online. But there are a lot of other anniversary celebrations happening this year.

I was recently in Orillia making a presentation to the Orillia Power Squadron at their Annual General Meeting where they were celebrating their 70th anniversary! I think that’s a major accomplishment but this July, Paris Marine in Peterborough is celebrating their 80th anniversary. Deborah Paris still owns and runs the business her family founded nearly Century ago.

In this issue of Boating Industry Canada News Week Digest we also recognize the Port Credit Yacht Club that is celebrating their 90th anniversary this year and the Toronto Hydroplane Club is celebrating its 75th Anniversary.

A few months agon we received a letter from a reader who told us that his club, Aquatic Park Sailing Club in Toronto was also celebrating their 50th Anniversary having been founded in 1976.

Do you, your boat, your marina, or your club have a milestone celebration this year? If you do, please send it along to andy@opmediagroup.ca and I’ll recognize your special occasion in an upcoming edition of Boating Industry Canada News Week Digest.

Cheers!
