After the success of its 30 amp products, SmartPlug Systems now offers its unique product in 50 amps.  Designed for larger boats, the new Connector and Inlet incorporate the same revolutionary features as the original 30 amp version.

The SmartPlug's straight-in, sleeved design enables the body of the plug to bear weight, instead of the electrical pins.  This keeps the points of electrical contact secure and makes sure the pins don't work themselves loose.  Intuitive to use, owners simply push the plug straight in until the side levers click and then snap the locking cap down on top to finish the job.  The unique shape of the plug makes it easy to orient, since it can only be plugged in one way.  No twisting is required.

The "CASBAs" Canada's boating safety awards were presented at a dinner and awards event held during the Toronto International Boat Show, on January 15th, 2012.

Across Canada, four individuals and four organizations stand out in 2011 – whether for their efforts that saved the lives of students capsized in a gale, teaching people how to use lifejackets to save the lives of loved ones, inventing a new product to aid rescuers in finding those stranded in the water, or providing their boating expertise and helping to protect the environment.

The MDCE marine dealer event will be held Nov. 11-14 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The 2012 show follows on the heels of four-consecutive years of growth in dealer attendance and the Marine Dealer Conference & Expo is preparing to break new records in 2012.

The event, which will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, will take its educational line-up to the next level, offering dealers a bevy of fresh topics and more expert presenters than ever before.

In their official show release, the managers of the  54th annual Toronto International Boat Show that ran from Jan. 13 to 22, say that the show closed Sunday with positive feedback from key stakeholders in its 550 exhibitor base, and an overall attendance of 76,253 – up 5% from 2011.

Held at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto, ON, and recognized as an industry harbinger of the year to come, Canada’s largest recreational boating showcase is renowned for each year building the world’s largest indoor lake. Hourly programming offered on The Lake includes free boat rides, powerboat handling and other demos, Wakeboard Shows featuring pro riders, and wakeboard instruction – which resulted in more than 300 show-goers suiting up and getting out onto The Lake to “Go Wakeboarding” this year.

The R31 shares many of the features and qualities of her smaller sisterships but some notable additions to this larger model make her ideal for extended cruising while still being a trailerable trawler.

Boating Industry Canada readers can now access a Technical Guidance Document for the Marine Spark-Ignition Engine, Vessel and Off-Road Recreational Vehicle Emission Regulations (Regulation) under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999.

With an introduction by Howard Shiebler, the new president and CEO of GE Commercial Distribution Finance (CDF), David Spader’s 2-hour session called  “Building Bench Strength – How Strong Is Yours?” was hosted by Boating Industry Canada magazine in partnership with GE CDF.

The seminar was held at the Toronto International Boat Show on Tuesday, January 17th. While the session dealt with succession planning broadly, it started by asking the question; what happens when you don’t have a strong bench?

The Toronto international boat show closed its doors on Sunday, January 22 after 9 days of favorable weather and apparently increased attendance.

Boating Industry Canada magazine interviewed several of the exhibitors at the show to ask them their impressions. Morten Fogh of Fogh Marine emphasized the importance of not sugarcoating the results. The last few years have not been strong, but he felt that business was indeed picking up this year.

Jamie Small at CO2 Inflatables commented that they were holding their own with results that were on par for the last few years, but he noted that the boat sizes were changing and in his opinion, there’d been a shift from blue-collar to more white-collar buyers.

The Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons (CPS) has announced the launch of its online self study version of the Boating Basics course. This comprehensive CPS Boating Safety online study guide is approved by Transport Canada for candidates to the online version of the Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) Boating Safety exam.  

Upon successful completion of the online course, candidates are invited to proceed to the Transport Canada online Boating Safety Exam. Boating Basics will continue to be offered by CPS through its Squadrons and Recognized Providers across Canada as a stand alone classroom course or as part of the CPS Boating Course, both leading to obtaining a PCOC.

Lori Mason, president of The Store, Mason's Chandlery, and Morten Fogh, president of Fogh Marine, have announced an agreement in principle for Morten to purchase The Store, Mason's Chandlery. The expected deal should be done by the end of February.  It will be business as usual at both locations before and afterwards.

After almost 34 years (in April) the Mason’s are finally retiring to Picton. “It has been the best career I could ever think of” stated Lori Mason, “I am so happy that my parents choose to open The Store back in 1978 and gave me an opportunity to work here 34 years while buying the store from them.
