Professor Popsicle Is Hoping to Save Lives by Giving Away His DVD, Beyond Cold Water Boot Camp

This has got to be cold enough for you.

The University of Manitoba's Professor Popsicle (a.k.a. Gordon Giesbrecht) is hoping to save lives by giving away free copies of his DVD, Beyond Cold Water Boot Camp.

Giesbrecht has been conducting cold-water research — plenty of it with his own body — for 25 years, and the DVD is partly a look back at that.

It's geared at emergency responders, educators and policy-makers as well as the general public, offering up tips on how to make cold-defying rescues or escape from frigid situations.

More than 20,000 free videos have been distributed already, and parts of it will be available for download at www.beyondcoldwaterbootcamp.com.

The Government of Canada, the Canadian Safe Boating Council, the Canadian and US Coast Guards and the Lifesaving Society all sponsored the project.
