Boating Industry Canada recently spoke to Scott Hanson, CEO at The Limestone Boat Company for an update on the company's plans. The company had previously purchased the Aquasport line and factory in Tennessee where they intended to produce Limestone boats alongside Aquasport production, but a variety of circumstances including the impact of COVID-19 resulted in a shutdown of that plant on January 20th 2023. Negotiations by the court appointed Trustee in TN to sell the facility and Aquasport brand are underway.
In anticipation of the change, The Limestone Boat Company entered into discussions beginning December 2022 for plans to build a new facility in Atlantic Canada to build the Limestone brand.
An announcement is expected this spring for a new purpose-built state of the art plant which will be better suited to revitalizing the Limestone brand. The new facility will be producing the Limestone 20 in Centre Console, Runabout and a new EV model. The company has also completed tooling for a new 290 Dual Console model which will go into production as well, and its 270 Dual Console tooling presently in development, is expected to follow within the first year.
The company enjoys solid dealer support in Canada and throughout New England, markets that can be more effectively serviced from Atlantic Canada. The company is also working with the province of New Brunswick to assist Limestone in bringing new boat building jobs to that province. More detailed announcements are expected in May of this year, with re-commencement of production expected in Q1 2024.
