2023 National #GoSailing Days set for June 16-18

Go Sailing

June 12, 2023

Go SailingCanadian sailing enthusiasts from across the country will be invited to celebrate their favourite sport during the 2023 edition of National #GoSailing Days to be held June 16-18. Throughout the weekend, Canadian sailors will be encouraged to post and share pictures and videos of them sailing in Canada through their social media. They will be invited to use the #GoSailing hashtag in their posts, or #GoÀLaVoile in French, and to tag Sail Canada, which will share their content.

Initiation to sailing
In the lead up to the weekend, Sail Canada will also promote sailing clubs and schools across the country, inviting Canadians to find out where are the nearest club and school and to contact them if they would like to be introduced to sailing.

Sailing and sports organizations across the country are also encouraged to initiate Canadians to the sport of sailing not only on water, but also on dryland through different cool activities for kids. Resources are available on Sail Canada’s Sailing for Kids page on the website at https://www.sailing.ca/sailing-for-kids/.

Canadian community challenge: register your sailing hours!
Once again this year, sailors will be invited to cheer for Canadians who will be in action over the weekend, including members of the Canada SailGP Team, who will start their new season in Chicago, as well as other Canadian sailors who will be in Germany for the Kiel Week event.

To cheer them on, Canadian sailors will be invited to register online and log their sailing hours during Canada’s #GoSailing Days. The objective will be to collectively reach a total of 780 hours on the water to match the approximately 7,300 km distance that separates Chicago from Kiel while sailing at an average speed of 5 knots. Sailors will be invited to record their time online at www.sailing.ca/gosailing/.

As well, all Canadian sailors will be encouraged to post pictures of them and their family and friends while they are out on the water sailing, while also using the #GoSailing hashtag and tagging Sail Canada (@sailcanada).

Sail Canada will hold a draw involving all participants who register their sailing hours in order to award several participation prizes.
