Volvo Penta has just been honored with multiple awards for its practices, products and people at the 2019 International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition (IBEX) in Tampa, Fla. Honors include an IBEX Innovation Award, placement on Sounding Trade Only’s Most Innovative Companies list, and Mover & Shaker of the Year.

At the IBEX Industry Breakfast on October 1, Volvo Penta was presented with an IBEX Innovation Award for its Next-Generation D4 and D6 Marine Propulsion Systems. The package was selected by a panel of expert marine journalists from Boating Writers International (BWI). The D4 and D6 propulsion systems have been re-engineered with redesigned engines, new sterndrive, updated IPS drive and a new Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) platform. The end result is a fully integrated package that delivers the ultimate boating experience.

“When it comes to innovation, Volvo Penta never disappoints which is a lot like the reliability they provide to their customers on the water,” said IBEX Innovation Award judge Alan Wendt.

At the Soundings Trade Only 40th Anniversary Gala on September 30, Volvo Penta was recognized as one of the Top Ten Most Innovative Companies. Selected by Soundings Trade Only and AIM Marine Group editors, writers and publishers and chosen industry experts, the list of finalists are chosen for their roles in transforming the marine industry through use of new manufacturing processes, marketing approaches, technologies, products, purposes, direction, workforce and other initiatives. The full list will appear in the publication’s November issue.

Volvo Penta GroupIn addition, Ron Huibers, president and CEO of Volvo Penta of the Americas, was named Mover & Shaker of the Year by Boating Industry magazine.

“The recognition garnered at IBEX is a testament of the innovative spirit that runs through our team at Volvo Penta and the partners without whom we wouldn’t be here,” said Huibers. “Our passion for the boating industry and the people who use our solutions is evident in all we do. I couldn’t be prouder of these accomplishments and of the direction we’re heading for the future.”
