ABC Close

May 27, 2025

The 2025 American Boating Congress (ABC) concluded last week in Washington D.C., bringing together marine industry leaders and policymakers for high-level discussions on the future of recreational boating and marine manufacturing.

Culminating the three-day event, Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) opened the morning breakfast and emphasized the important role the recreational boating and fishing industry play in our nation’s economy. Former Sen. Joe Manchin (I-W.Va.) also addressed attendees, emphasizing the importance of constituent-driven policymaking, the strength of American manufacturing, and his personal connection to boating and outdoor recreation.

Following a morning of keynote remarks and industry networking, recreational boating leaders visited Capitol Hill for meetings with lawmakers and staff. Their advocacy centred on key industry priorities, including:

  • Promoting innovation and investment in marine technology
  • Supporting pro-growth policies that sustain U.S. manufacturing competitiveness
  • Expanding access to public waters and modernizing recreation infrastructure

The day culminated at Washington Marina, where NMMA and industry partners hosted a live demonstration of next-generation marine technologies. The showcase featured the industry’s Propelling Our Future initiative and included on-water trials of sustainable marine fuels and advanced propulsion systems, underscoring the sector’s commitment to environmental progress and innovation.

“The American Boating Congress is more than just an event, it’s where we unite as an industry to speak with one voice and that voice continues to be a powerful platform for uniting industry and shaping public policy,” said Frank Hugelmeyer, president and CEO of the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA). “On this week, our collective efforts helped  shape the future of recreational boating and fishing in the United States.”

ABC 2025 drew a diverse range of participants from across the recreational boating supply chain, including manufacturers, dealers, marinas, and service providers. The event served as a focal point for advancing legislative priorities and showcasing the marine industry’s role in U.S. manufacturing and outdoor recreation.

The NMMA and its industry partners will host the 2026 American Boating Congress from May 4–6 in Washington, D.C.
