Bavaria Yachts Makes Its Sailing Yachts Silent

BAVARIA YACHTS is now making sailing even more sustainable. From the summer, the BAVARIA C38e, C42e and C46e models will be available with electric or hybrid drive, offering owners even more independence on the water. And as quiet as sailing itself.

Leaving the harbour silently in the morning and gliding silently to the anchorage at sunset – this is no longer a dream with the new BAVARIA C38e, C42e and C46e sailing yachts with electric or hybrid drive. In terms of sailing characteristics, interior and layout, the new models are similar to their sisters BAVARIA C38, C42 and C46, but their ecological footprint is now even smaller. The hardware and technology comes from EPTechnologies in Denmark, which has been an innovation leader in the field of alternative drive systems for yachts for many years. The integration of the EPT system into the BAVARIA DNA naturally comes from BAVARIA YACHTS and its experienced development team.

Propulsion is provided by a saildrive with an electric motor. On the BAVARIA C38e and C42e, 25 kW of power is delivered to the water. On the BAVARIA C46e it is 37 kW. The heart and brain of the system is the Multibox, which controls the charging of the batteries and the entire system. On the BAVARIA C38e and C42e, the energy is stored in an 18.2 kWh battery pack as standard and can be extended by two additional battery packs if required. This enables a range of over 50 nautical miles in purely electric mode. The BAVARIA C46e already has two battery packs ex works.

An optional generator provides even more independence at sea. This hybrid drive extends the range of a BAVARIA C38e to 576 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 5.5 knots.

The BAVARIA C38e, C42e and C46e have extensive standard equipment, including B&G instruments, the comprehensive Sail-Ready package from BAVARIA YACHTS with railing access amidships, an electric anchor winch and ambient lighting. An inverter ensures the use of hot water and other systems on board as standard.

“We have been looking for a long time for a solution for alternative drives for our C-Line that fits in with our DNA at BAVARIA YACHTS. Sustainable, of high quality, modularly expandable and easy to operate in practice. With EPTechnologies, we have now found a partner to take this step into the future. Sailing is a sustainable sport, we have now made it even more sustainable,” explains Norbert Leifeld, COO at BAVARIA YACHTS.

Good Advice that You Can Share – The Art of Anchoring

Unless a boat is secured, it will drift away. If it cannot be attached to something secure, such as a dock, piling, mooring buoy, tree, or boulder, it must be anchored. There is much more to anchoring than simply tossing the anchor over the side.

An anchoring system has two parts: the anchor itself and the rode which connects the anchor to the boat. To be effective, an anchor must have good holding power, and the rode must be strong enough to withstand the strains that are put on it.
