Boating Ontario Social Event at Hucks Marine & Resort

July 14, 2026

On July 6, a lovely summer afternoon, Boating Ontario, with the generous support of Hucks Marine & Resort in Rockport, Ontario, hosted a business social meet and greet at the marina. Held in the late afternoon when attendees were best able to manage a bit of time off, guests were invited to a waterfront reception hosted by the Hucks and Boating Ontario staff.

Rick Layzell welcomed the guests and gave a brief introduction, thanking them for their attendance and then turned the podium over to Scott MacCrimmon of Hucks. He welcomed the guests and invited those who were interested, to join a casual tour of the marina facilities and their indoor storage building (ParkStor) located 1 km east of the marina.

Led by MacCrimmon, the tour went from the marina’s waterfront Gerald H. Huck Building to the nearby Johnston Building, where the showroom, Service & Parts Department, and the boaters’ amenities are located. Those include a fully equipped fitness facility, sauna, steam room, a second-floor meeting room and as Scott MacCrimmon emphasized, elegant and beautifully clean, private washroom facilities.

He made the important point that marina patrons judge the facility by the cleanliness of the washrooms. They employ a two-person full-time cleaning staff and dockage customers, and their guests use these facilities during the boating season.

From there, the group drove about 1 km to the very impressive and large (80,000 sq. ft.) indoor storage facility (ParkStor).

Guests were clearly impressed with what they saw and Scott MacCrimmon generously shared many insights and lessons learned over the course of developing and building this facility.  The buildings are insulated so the Service Crew can take boats out of storage and into the heated year-round service shop and buff and wax area at any time.

The service and storage area is clearly the heart of the business and it was a great learning experience to hear from MacCrimmon who was very open with ideas and information, especially the “whys and wherefores” behind the design and layout of the building and how it worked for their Crew and customers.

We send a special thank-you to the Boating Ontario team and the Hucks Marine & Resort Crew for an enjoyable and very valuable business and social afternoon.
